We invited Suzanne Reek, the Executive Director of the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter of the Autism Society of America, to join us at our weekly staff lunch today. John Cronin, the co-founder of John’s Crazy Socks, presented Suzanne with a symbolic “big check” representing our quarterly donation. 
Did you know that more than 140,000 Americans are being paid less than minimum wage simply because they have a disability? Some are paid as little as $0.25 an hour. And not only is this legal, but it is also done with the blessing of the US government. Organizations are allowed to treat these workers as if they are sub-human. This is done in all of our names and it is time we put a stop to it. It is time to eliminate the sub-minimum wage.

John and Mark X. Cronin, co-founders of John’s Crazy Socks, met with the Down Syndrome Network Arizona (DSNetwork) sharing the story of how they started John’s Crazy Socks and offering encouragement to self-advocates with Down syndrome and their families. 
We learned that an article about John’s Crazy Socks by Professors Jérémie Renouf and Noreen O’Shea has been published in the academic journal Entreprendre & Innover, a quarterly journal focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. 
At John’s Crazy Socks, we get to meet many people doing great work which is why we are so excited that the Independence Café is carrying our socks. Located in the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack, New York, the Independence Café employs people with differing abilities and carries products made by businesses led by or featuring people with differing abilities.
