John’s Crazy Socks, a mission-driven company dedicated to spreading happiness and celebrating the abilities of people with differing abilities, is excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2025 Autism Can Do Scholarship. Now in its seventh year, the scholarship recognizes and supports the talents of individuals on the autism spectrum. Applications are due by March 15, 2025.
The Autism Can Do Scholarship
As in years past, the Autism Can Do Scholarship is co-sponsored by Rangam, an inclusive staffing company committed to promoting sustainable employment for neurodiverse talent, and the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, which works to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest.
Autism Can Do Scholarship Prizes:
-
First Place: $5,000 and the opportunity to have the winning sock design produced and sold by John’s Crazy Socks
-
Second Place: $2,500
-
Third Place: $1,000
“This scholarship is a beautiful way to shine a light on the abilities of people with autism,” says John Cronin, co-founder of John’s Crazy Socks and a young man with Down syndrome. “We’re thrilled to support these students and celebrate their creativity.”
Celebrating Talent and Creativity on the Autism Spectrum
The Autism Can Do Scholarship is open to U.S. residents on the autism spectrum. Applicants are asked to submit:
-
A simple application form
-
A personal statement
-
A sock design showcasing their imagination and individuality
“We are a sock company, so it’s only fitting that we ask for a sock design,” says Mark X. Cronin, John’s father and co-founder of John’s Crazy Socks. “You don’t need to be a professional artist—what we care about is your creativity and inspiration.”
Nick Savarese, Executive Director of the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, adds, “We know what people with autism can achieve and are proud to support this program to help them reach their fullest potential.”
Nish Parikh, CEO and Co-founder of Rangam, shares, “At Rangam, we believe in creating opportunities that celebrate and empower neurodiverse talent. The Autism Can Do Scholarship is an important initiative that aligns with our mission to promote employment for everyone.”
John’s Crazy Socks Legacy of Giving Back
The Autism Can Do Scholarship is part of John’s Crazy Socks’ Giving Back Program, which has donated over $800,000 to its charity partners, including the Special Olympics, the Autism Society of America, and the National Down Syndrome Society. The scholarship exemplifies the company’s commitment to showcasing the talents of people with differing abilities—many of whom are part of their team.
“This scholarship is made possible by our amazing customers,” says Mark Cronin. “Every purchase helps support programs like this one. Together, we’re creating opportunities and spreading happiness.”
How to Apply for the Autism Can Do Scholarship
The application is available on the John’s Crazy Socks website. Winners will be announced in April 2025, and the first-place winner’s sock design will join the company’s collection, symbolizing creativity and empowerment.
