Working at John's Crazy Socks

Warehouse Staff at John's Crazy Socks

We are always looking for people who want to help us change the world.

We are spreading happiness, bringing joy to people. Would you like to join us on our adventure? Do you want a job where you can make a difference, where the work you do matters?

We are a mission driven organization committed to spreading happiness. We were born out of the love between a father (Mark) and son (John) and a desire to make people happy. We create fun on the job, for our customers and for our community. We seek individuals who share our values and want to help this little company change the world.

Hiring People with a Differing Ability

And we hire people with differing abilities. We focus on what people can do, not what someone cannot do. More than half our employees have a differing ability and that benefits all of us. Hiring people with differing abilities leads to better morale, better productivity, better retention, and it helps us recruit.  We want to show the world what people with differing abilities can achieve.

We are a social enterprise so our social and business missions are indivisible. We spread happiness by showing what people with differing abilities can do (more than half our employees have a differing ability), by Giving Back (we have raised over $450,000 for our charity partners) and by making a personal connection with our customers. We work as a team to make these goals a reality. What we do matters.

Here are the three criteria we will consider in hiring a person for this role:

  1. Mission: Do you understand and believe in our mission?
  2. Culture: Do you share our values so that you will be a good fit in our organization and our organization will be the place where you can do your best work?
  3. Skills: Do you have the skills to do the work?

Skills matter, but we have learned that culture and mission matter more. Please read out Mission and Values to determine if we are a good fit for you.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Joy Creator

Part-Time  |  Weekends Included  |  Our Huntington Village Store

Abilities Rising Commerce LLC  |  dba John’s Crazy Socks  |  Huntington, New York

An Invitation to Spread Happiness

John Cronin has Down syndrome. In 2016, when he could not find meaningful work, he did not wait. He and his father Mark started a sock company. Today, John’s Crazy Socks has shipped over 500,000 packages to customers in 94 countries, earned 33,000+ five-star reviews, a Net Promoter Score of 94, and donated over $800,000 to the Special Olympics and our charity partners.

We are not just a sock company. We are proof that a business built around inclusion, joy, and purpose can also be a great business. And now that story has a home on Main Street. Our store at 328A Main Street in Huntington Village is where our mission comes to life in person, where customers meet John, where the community gathers, and where every visitor should leave a little happier than when they walked in.

We are looking for a special person to help create that joy every day. We call this role the Joy Creator. It is a part-time position for someone we can trust to run the store on their own — to open and close, work the register, and take great care of every customer who comes through the door. You do not need years of retail experience. What you need is a heart for people, a belief in our mission, and the reliability to run our store like it is your own.

We are small but we are mighty. All we want to do is change the world, and we want people who want to join our mission. If the idea of spending your days spreading happiness in the heart of Huntington Village excites you, we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Our Main Street store is more than a place to buy socks. It is a destination, a place where our mission of spreading happiness is something you can see, feel, and take home with you. As a Joy Creator, you are the person who makes that happen. When John is traveling, you are the face of John’s Crazy Socks for every customer who walks in.

This is a role of real trust and real independence. You will be counted on to open and close the store, handle the register and the day’s cash, keep the shelves full and the space welcoming, and, above all, make every single customer feel seen, valued, and happy. You will work alongside a team where more than half of our colleagues have differing abilities, and you will help make the store a place where everyone shines.

What You'll Do

Open and Close the Store

  • Open the store: unlock, turn on lights and displays, prepare the register, and get the space ready to welcome customers

  • Close the store: reconcile the register, secure cash, tidy and reset the floor, and lock up securely at the end of the day

  • Act as a trusted keyholder, taking responsibility for the store during your shifts

Run the Register and Handle Cash

  • Operate the point-of-sale system: ring up sales, process cards and cash, and handle returns and exchanges accurately

  • Count the drawer at open and close, follow cash-handling procedures, and complete daily reconciliation

  • Keep transactions accurate and honest with every dollar accounted for

Create Joy for Every Customer

  • Greet every person warmly and make them feel welcome the moment they walk in

  • Help customers find the perfect socks, share John’s story naturally, and turn a quick visit into a memorable experience

  • Handle questions, special requests, and the occasional concern with patience, kindness, and a smile

  • Remember that every interaction is a chance to make someone’s day a little brighter

Keep the Store Ready

  • Restock shelves and displays so the store always looks full, colorful, and inviting

  • Keep the store clean, organized, and safe throughout the day

  • Help set up seasonal displays, promotions, and in-store events

  • Let the Store Manager know when inventory is running low or something needs attention

Work Independently

  • Run the store confidently on your own during solo shifts, following our procedures and using good judgment

  • Manage your time well, stay dependable, and be somewhere our customers and team can count on

  • Know when to handle something yourself and when to reach out to the Store Manager

Live the Mission

  • Represent John’s Crazy Socks and our mission of spreading happiness with pride, every day

  • Support and encourage teammates with differing abilities, helping create a store where everyone contributes and everyone belongs

  • Have fun — joy is the job
