Long Island-based John’s Crazy Socks, the world’s largest sock store, has moved into larger warehouse and office space to accommodate their growth. They celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony with remarks from elected officials and business leaders and a performance by the FREE Drum and Bugle Corp.
John Cronin, Co-founder and Chief Happiness Officer of John’s Crazy Socks said, “We continue to add more socks and more employees, we continue to reach more customers, so we thought the move to a bigger building was a good reason to celebrate.” John Cronin is an award-winning entrepreneur who happens to have Down Syndrome.
Located at 110 Bi County Blvd, Suite 120, Farmingdale, NY 11735 Farmingdale, NY and rented from Rechler Equity Partners, the new space is 60 percent larger with higher ceilings and a loading dock.
Rich Schaeffer, the Supervisor of the Town of Babylon, welcomed the business to Babylon saying, “Your socks put a smile on everyone’s face. Your inspiring mission is lighting the way for other organizations to create diversity and inclusion in their business. Plus, I get to brag that Babylon has John's Crazy Socks.”
Matt Cohen, President & CEO of the Long Island Association said, “I want to congratulate John and Mark X. Cronin, who are a prime example that an inclusive business is also an economically successful one. We look forward to continuing to see John’s Crazy Socks grow on Long Island.”
John’s Crazy Socks continues to grow its direct-to-consumer business through its website and is expanding by offering services like custom socks and gift packages to other businesses in their B2B program. By the end of the fourth quarter of 2022, the company will be selling their socks through other retailers. They already sell through Zappos.com and have agreements with several major retailers to introduce their socks in the fall.
Mark X. Cronin, John’s co-founder and father, said, “We are on a mission to spread happiness. Every day, we work to show what people with differing abilities can do. One way we pursue that goal is to employ people with differing abilities; more than half our employees have a differing ability. The business growth and the expansion to new space will enable us to create more jobs.”
As a growing social enterprise, the company has created 34 jobs, 22 of which have been filled by people with differing abilities. The business realized a 47 percent increase in revenue this past year and expects to see significant growth in 2022, further boosting the Long Island economy and being an industry e-commerce leader nationwide.
The new facility includes a loading dock that will allow the company to fulfil more bulk and wholesale orders as well as fulfil their promise of same day shipping to customers. The new building includes 4,270 square feet of warehouse space, 1,800 square feet of office space and a kitchen and other amenities.
Gregg Rechler, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Rechler Equity Partners, said, "Rechler Equity Partners is excited to add John's Crazy Socks to our diversified client portfolio and provide this inspiring organization with a space to prosper and expand right here on Long Island. The amenities of 110 Bi County Boulevard are vitally important to fit the needs of companies this size, as they provide the infrastructure of a large-scale facility for a fraction of the cost.”
The success of John’s Crazy Socks has been recognized worldwide. The company has shipped over 380,000 packages to 88 different countries and donated over $500,000 to their charity partners such as the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society and the Autism Society of America. The father-son duo also recently launched their podcast, “The Spreading Happiness Podcast” where they share their remarkable business journey and life lessons learned along the way.
About John’s Crazy Socks
John’s Crazy Socks was inspired by John Lee Cronin, a young man with Down syndrome, and his love of colorful and fun socks—what he calls his “crazy socks.” He and his father, Mark X. Cronin, started the company as a social enterprise with a mission of Spreading Happiness™. With more than 4,000 socks, John’s Crazy Socks is now the world’s largest sock store. More than half their employees have a differing ability, and their Giving Back program has raised over $500,000 for charity partners like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society and the Autism Society of America. Most of all, they are Spreading Happiness™.
