Part of our mission is to show what people with differing abilities can accomplish. We start by creating jobs for people with differing abilities – more than half our colleagues have a differing ability – but that is not enough. We want to show the world. One way John and Mark do that is by appearing on podcasts to share their message. Now, the pair have written a chapter for the book Podmatch Guest Mastery: A Guide for Appearing as Guest on a Podcast
Making Guest Appearances on Podcasts
Appearing as podcasts guests has allowed John and Mark to tell the story of John’s Crazy Socks and to reach new audiences. They get to tell the story of how John turned a challenge – his inability to find meaningful work – into an opportunity when he had the idea for John’s Crazy Socks. They also get to speak about building a social enterprise with a mission to spread happiness, a business that employs people with differing abilities and gives back to the community.
“I love doing podcast interviews,” says John Cronin, co-founder of John’s Crazy Socks. “I love to tell people how we created John’s Crazy Socks. I want people to know that I have Down syndrome and Down syndrome never holds me back.”
His father and co-founder Mark X. Cronin added, “Doing podcast interviews enables us to reach new audiences, to share how hiring people with differing abilities is good business.”
Creating their Own Podcast: The Spreading Happiness Podcast
“We have a mission to spread happiness,” said John Cronin.
The father and son are always looking for ways to fulfill that mission. One way of reaching people is through their weekly half hour podcast, The Spreading Happiness Podcast. It is 30 minutes designed to put a smile on your face. John and Mark banter and share an update on John’s activities. In each episode, they share good news, highlight a business owned by people with differing abilities and tell some jokes. And John gives an update on his love life. The Spreading Happiness Podcast is available on all the usual podcast platforms and at the John’s Crazy Socks website
“I love doing our podcast,” said John, “It is so much fun.”
Why Contribute a Chapter to PodMatch Guest Mastery?
John and Mark are sought after guests for podcasts because their story appeals to so many audiences: entrepreneurs, parents, educators, e-commerce owners, social service workers, and many more.
Mark explained, “We were honored to be asked to contribute a chapter. We said yes because we saw it as a way to give back. Others have helped us so if we can share our experiences to help others, we want to do it.”
John added, “Doing for others is a key to happiness and we saw this as a way to do for others.”
PodMatch Guest Mastery is available at the PodMatch Book website and on Amazon.
About John’s Crazy Socks
John’s Crazy Socks was inspired by John Lee Cronin, a young man with Down syndrome, and his love of colorful and fun socks—what he calls his “crazy socks.” He and his father, Mark X. Cronin, started the company as a social enterprise with a mission of Spreading Happiness™. With more than 4,000 socks, John’s Crazy Socks is now the world’s largest sock store. More than half their employees have a differing ability, and their Giving Back program has raised over $550,000 for charity partners like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Autism Society of America. Most of all, they are Spreading Happiness™.
