Giving Back is baked into everything we do at John’s Crazy Socks. We believe it is never enough to just sell stuff, that we need to give back to the community and the causes that matter to us.
And we believe it is important to report to our customers on our Giving Back program. You, our customers, make our donations possible so we owe it to you to report on how much we raised for our charity partners and where we have donated the money.
In February 2021, we raised $6,897.72 for our charity partners. Through February 2021, we have now raised $412,000 for our charity partners. Giving Back is an essential part of our mission and we are excited by our ability to support others. We continue to learn that the more we can give, the happier we are.
Our Giving Pack Program
A core aspect of our mission at John’s Crazy Socks is to demonstrate the capabilities and contributions of people with differing abilities. Our Giving Back Program helps us to achieve this mission. By donating to charities like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society and the Autism Society of America, we enable them to do more work on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities.
John Cronin, the co-founder and inspiration behind John’s Crazy Socks, initiated the Giving Back Program by committing to donate five percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics even before we opened for business. John is a Special Olympics athlete and knows first-hand the difference the Special Olympics can make in the lives of all involved.
Since opening, we have added a growing list of Awareness Socks and Charity Socks that raise money for our charity partners. These include our Down Syndrome Awareness Socks, which John designed, and our Autism Awareness Socks. John loves to hand deliver the donations and our staff celebrates when we announce our Giving Back totals for the month.
New Charity and Awareness Socks:
We have introduced new Down Syndrome Awareness socks just in time for World Down Syndrome Day on March 2021 where everyone is encouraged to wear crazy socks to rock the world! Our new offerings include the Down Syndrome Caped Superhero Boy socks and the Down Syndrome Caped Superhero Girl socks both of which feature a real superhero cape off the back of the sock! Both styles are available in men’s, women’s and kid’s sizes.
In addition, we have re-designed our original Down Syndrome Awareness socks and now offer them in yellow with blue accents. These Yellow Down Syndrome Awareness crew socks are our original 3-21 design but in reverse color combinations.
All three of these new Down Syndrome Awareness styles donate 10% of sales to the National Down Syndrome Society and ACDS.
We have also just introduced two new Autism awareness socks that donate money to both Autism Speaks and the Nassau-Suffolk Chapter of Autism Society of America. The Autism Heart Balloon sock and the Autism Hot Air Balloon sock were introduced in time for purchases in anticipation of Autism Awareness month – April.
Event:
On February 9, 2021, John and Mark went to Huntington Hospital to thank all the frontline healthcare workers who treated John at that facility when he was admitted to Huntington Hospital for treatment of Covid-19-related illness in late December 2020. John was hospitalized for eight days with Covid pneumonia and received first-class medical care from the doctors and nurses at the facility. He wanted to thank them for that and especially for permitting Mark, his Dad, to stay with him at the hospital during that time. John and Mark brought more than 120 pair of the This Superhero Wears Scrubs socks to donate to all of those healthcare workers. The value of that donate was over $1,600. It was a wonderful morning.

Donation of Charity Boxes
Every month, we receive many requests for donations of socks and/or boxes of socks that can be used at charity auctions or events to raise money for a multitude of organizations that are doing admirable work on behalf of non-profit groups. In some months, we have received more than 1,000 requests for sock donations.
There are many great causes – people working to protect the environment, to advance the arts, to lift people out of poverty, to advance peace – and we want to support many, many causes. Nonetheless, we realize that we can have a better impact focusing on issues concerning people with differing abilities since that resonates best with our overall mission. We do our best to fill as many requests as possible, but we cannot fill every request for even those organizations that are fully aligned with our mission.
In the past month, we donated 6 boxes to be used at fundraising events associated with the following charitable organizations:
- The Arc of Evansville
- Community Option
- Southside Support for Special Needs
- LIFEDesigns!
- disABILITYsa
- Kiwanis Club/John Chapman Foundation
In addition, we donated socks to Birch Family Services for their use in a group home for men with developmental disabilities.
Other Donations
In addition to our monthly charitable donations, donation boxes and sock donations, in February 2021, we donated $200 to Autism Speaks for an Awareness Walk, $234.45 to NDSS for their 3-21 Walk and $100 to LuMind DS Foundation.

Nothing makes us happier than giving back to charity. We work together with our charity partners to help raise awareness for their causes. Then we report on this activity for our customers. Without you, none of this would be possible. Thank you.
