For nine years, we’ve had the joy of building something special with you. What started as a dream between a father and son became a business that reached millions, created dozens of jobs, and showed what people with differing abilities can do when given a chance.

Now, we're on to our next chapter. We're creating a movement.

New York is making progress, but too many people with disabilities are still being left out of the workforce—and that needs to change. At John’s Crazy Socks and Abilities Rising, we know the incredible things people with differing abilities can achieve when given a real chance. That’s why we’re championing entrepreneurship as a powerful path forward. With the right support—from certification and state contracting opportunities to grants and coaching—we can help more disability-owned businesses grow, hire, and inspire. Together, we can build a happier, more inclusive economy where everyone’s talents shine.

We were honored to host New York Assemblyman Kwani O’Pharrow at John’s Crazy Socks for a tour and an in-depth conversation about expanding employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for people with differing abilities. Together, we discussed eliminating the subminimum wage, addressing employment challenges, and supporting disability-owned businesses. Assemblyman O’Pharrow’s genuine engagement and commitment to inclusive policies inspire us as we continue our mission to show what people with differing abilities can achieve and to build a more inclusive economy for all.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re shining a spotlight on Spectrum Designs — a New York nonprofit that proves inclusion drives innovation. With over 60% of their team on the autism spectrum, they’re not just making high-quality apparel; they’re creating meaningful jobs, building community, and showing the power of purpose-driven business.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and at John’s Crazy Socks, inclusion is who we are. Over half our team has differing abilities, proving every day that inclusive hiring is smart business. NDEAM celebrates their contributions and inspires others to open doors to untapped talent. Join us in creating workplaces where everyone belongs.

John’s Crazy Socks was recently featured on the Growth Compass podcast, where co-founder Mark X. Cronin shared how the company blends entrepreneurship with purpose. From creating jobs for people with differing abilities to donating over $800,000 to charity partners, John’s Crazy Socks is proving that business can be a force for good. Tune in to learn how they’ve built the world’s largest sock store while staying true to their mission to Spread Happiness™.

During their recent trip to Boise, John and Mark X. Cronin of John’s Crazy Socks visited Sweet Zola’s Candy Shop—a colorful, inclusive space that employs individuals with differing abilities. Founded by Cyndy Radovich, the shop is more than a candy store; it’s a place of purpose, community, and joy. Their visit was filled with inspiration, shared stories, and a mutual mission to spread happiness through meaningful work.
