Giving Back Report for November 2018
In November, we raised $15,490 for our charity partners, through November, we have now raised more than $197,000 for our charity partners. Giving Back is an essential part of our mission and we are excited by our ability to support others. We continue to learn that the more we can give, the happier we are.
Our Giving Pack Program
A core aspect of our mission at John’s Crazy Socks is to demonstrate the capabilities and contributions of people with differing abilities. Our Giving Back Program helps us to achieve this mission. By donating to charities like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society and the Autism Society of America, we enable them to do more work on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities.
John Cronin, the co-founder and inspiration behind John’s Crazy Socks, initiated the Giving Back Program by committing to donate five percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics even before we opened for business. John is a Special Olympics athlete and knows first-hand the difference the Special Olympics can make in the lives of all involved.
Since opening, we have added a growing list of Awareness Socks and Charity Socks that raise money for our charity partners. These include our Down Syndrome Awareness Socks, which John designed, and our Autism Awareness Socks. John loves to hand deliver the donations and our staff celebrates when we announce our Giving Back totals for the month.
New Charity and Awareness Socks
In December, President George H. W. Bush passed away. John had developed a connection with President Bush over socks. John sent the former President socks and President Bush took pictures wearing John’s socks and he sent John socks.
To honor John’s “sock buddy,” we introduced the President George H. W. Bush Tribute Socks in December. The proceeds from there socks, ($2 per pair), will go to the Barbara Bush Family Literary Foundation. We will begin reporting on the money raised from these socks on our next report. We also donate proceeds from our Library for Literacy Socks, (the “Book Socks”), to the Foundation. These are the socks the former President wore at his wife’s funeral.

Giving Back to the Special Olympics
We pledge 5 percent of our monthly earnings to the Special Olympics. While we will not know our earnings until after the year ends and our accountants close the books, we make a monthly donation to estimate this total. This month, we donated $500 for this purpose. We also donate 5 percent of the sales from our Sock of the Month Club to the Special Olympics. In addition, each sale of Shark Socks and Polar Plunge Socks also results in a donation to the Special Olympics.
In November, we avoided the frenetic and often annoying advertising associated with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Instead, we sponsored our Gratitude Week during which we gave back to our customers and the Special Olympics. For every order placed that week, we donated $1 to the Special Olympics. That initiative enabled us to raise $4,353 for the Special Olympics.
In November, we also donated $2,500 to a Sponsor an Athlete event hosted by the Special Olympics. November also brought the start of the Polar Plunge season. And November meant it was time for the Brookhaven Township Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. John has jumped in those frigid waters for many years. This year, we sponsored a team from John’s Crazy Socks. We donated $3,125 to support our Polar Plunge Team.

Other Donations
In November, we also made donations to several local charities totaling $1,317, including the Sorrentino Turkey Drive, and other local charitable events and causes.
In addition, we donated 24 boxes of socks to local and national groups that requested socks to use for their fundraising efforts. The value of those donated boxes was $2,400.
Nothing makes us happier than giving back to charity. We work together with our charity partners to help raise awareness for their causes. Then we report on this activity for our customers. Without you, none of this would be possible. Thank you.
