Earlier this week, John and I spent an evening with the Special Needs Parents group here on Long Island. We were invited to share our story, but what stayed with us most was the chance to listen.
David Hirsch, director of the Special Father’s Network, has created a moving and insightful audiobook called Down Syndrome Stories. The book is based on the interviews conducted for the Special Fathers Network and features both an interview and a forward from Mark X. Cronin, the co-founder of John’s Crazy Socks.
At John’s Crazy Socks, part of our mission is to show what people with differing abilities can do. Part of that effort means we speak to people with differing abilities and their families about finding meaningful work. We want them to know that there are opportunities for them to work and how we need them to work. That commitment led us to speak with the Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) in the Massapequa School District.
