And the Stockings (aka: John's crazy socks) were hung by the Chimey with care...

My grandmother started a tradition in our family. When her children were grown, and had children of their own she would buy nylon stockings at Christmas, and fill them for her now grown children with candy, fruit, and tiny gifts. The women had a pair of nylons (expensive back then), and the candy and fruit ended up in the grown children's children stockings. My mother continued the tradition. By now the nylons were panty hose, popular at the time. I continued the tradition with my own grown children until their children were grown, and we started giving them money instead, trying each year to give it to them in unusual ways. Scavenger Hunts, etc. My grandmother's tradition was not carried on by our children. Then my husband and I saw John and his father on Fox and Friends. We were so impressed with this enterprising young man, and his delightful socks, and the good that he gives back to the community. Inspired by his socks, we had a great idea. We would get socks for each of our children and grandchildren. We had no trouble finding socks that they would love, based on their hobbies and interests. We plan to fill them with small candies and small gifts, along with their Christmas money. We are excited to see their reactions. Thank you John for the inspiration, and for helping us to transition from nylons and panty hose, to a modern day version of the "stockings hung by the chimney with care". I'm sure both my mom and my grandmother will be looking down with very big smiles, knowing that the tradition is alive again!
