John’s Crazy Socks Supports the Sorrentino Family Turkey Drive

Last night, John Cronin, co-founder of John’s Crazy Socks, attended a fundraiser for the annual Sorrentino Family Turkey Drive. This marks the 15th year that Andre Sorrentino and his family have run the largest Thanksgiving food drive in the area. Andre and his family deliver food to thousands of families in need every Thanksgiving.

John said, “Andre has such a big heart and this Turkey Drive is so important that I want to do all I can to help.”

Held at the Dix Hills Firehouse, the fundraiser brought together elected officials, community leaders, business owners and everyday citizens to support a good cause.  They shared good food and good conversation. John posed for many photos and even broke out into a dance towards the end of the evening.

“It was so good seeing so many people supporting the Turkey Drive,” said John.

The Sorrentino Family Turkey Drive

Andre Sorrentino, a lifelong Huntington resident and now the Huntington Highway Superintendent, started the Turkey Drive in 2008 when he purchased 30 frozen turkeys and handed them out of the back of a pickup truck at his auto services company. By 2018, those 30 turkeys had grown into 2,000 turkeys and this year, the drive will feed more families than ever. The event has become a Huntington tradition.

Andre told the Times of Huntington, “It’s a good thing to help people and I’m trying to teach my kids that,” Sorrentino said. “If we had a little more of that in the world today, we’d all be better off.”

The whole Sorrentino family worked to stage the fundraising event. Area restaurants donated food so attendees enjoyed a buffet meal as well as beer, wine and soda. The fundraiser not only raised money but will lead to more people learning about the Sorentino Turkey Drive and supporting the cause.

Being Good Citizens

John’s partner and father, Mark X. Cronin, said, “We love what the Sorrentino family does with the Turkey Drive. It is important that we as business leaders and as residents of the Town of Huntington give back.  We want to be good citizens and I admire the way John leads the way.”

John Cronin said, “it is important to help others whenever we can. We’re on a mission to spread happiness and the keys to happiness are gratitude and doing for others. The Turkey Drive makes so many people so happy.”
