Giving Back Report for September 2022
In September 2022, we raised $7,690.39 for our charity partners. Through September 2022, we have now raised more than $537,842 for our charity partners. Giving Back is an essential part of our mission, and we are excited by our ability to support others. We continue to learn that the more we can give, the happier we are.
Our Giving Pack Program
A core aspect of our mission at John’s Crazy Socks is to demonstrate the capabilities and contributions of people with differing abilities. Our Giving Back Program helps us to achieve this mission. By donating to charities like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Autism Society of America, we enable them to do more work on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities.
John Cronin, the co-founder and inspiration behind John’s Crazy Socks, initiated the Giving Back Program by committing to donate five percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics even before we opened for business. John is a Special Olympics athlete and knows first-hand the difference the Special Olympics can make in the lives of all involved.
Since opening, we have added a growing list of Awareness Socks and Charity Socks that raise money for our charity partners. These include our Down Syndrome Awareness Socks, which John designed, and our Autism Awareness Socks. John loves to hand deliver the donations and our staff celebrates when we announce our Giving Back totals for the month.
Event: Speaking Engagement at Bush School of Government and Public Service
On September 8 and 9, John and Mark travelled to College Station, Texas where they spoke at the Bush School of Government and Public Service located at Texas A&M University. They spoke at an event at the library at the Bush School where three different custom sock designs were unveiled and sold at the university store. John helped design those socks that not only celebrated the Bush School but also recognized former President George H. Bush’s commitment to public service. One of the socks featured the likeness of “Sully”, President Bush’s service dog, and “Reveille”, the canine mascot of Texas A&M University. Both Sully and Reveille appeared at the kick-off event and a great time was had by all.
After the library event, John and Mark met with the students involved in the Texas A&M Aggie ACHIEVE program which is an educational program for individuals with intellectual disabilities to transition from high school to a college environment. John and Mark were impressed with the inclusiveness and demands of this program which is readying people with differing abilities to a more independent adult life.
On Friday evening, John and Mark met with the Down Syndrome Association of Brazos Valley. Over a great BBQ dinner, John and Mark were able to speak with other individuals with Down syndrome and their families about the opportunities available to them.
On Saturday, John and Mark were able to attend the Texas A&M football game. This was their first big-time SEC game and even though Texas A&M was not victorious, they had a fantastic time.
Event: NDSS Buddy Walk - NYC
On September 17, John and Mark were in the heart of New York City for the National Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk. They started the morning in Times Square where the faces of 500 individuals with Down syndrome were displayed on one of the huge Times Square video screens. Dozens of people from around the country had travelled to see their or their loved one’s face on the big screen. John was there to meet everyone and, of course, smile when he saw his face up there too!
After the Times Square show, everyone went up to the heart of Central Park where the Buddy Walk festivities took place. There was dancing, talking, eating, playing and, of course, walking, over several hours. It was a beautiful day to raise money for all the good that the National Down Syndrome Society does.

Nothing makes us happier than giving back to charity. We work together with our charity partners to help raise awareness for their causes. Then we report on this activity for our customers. Without you, none of this would be possible. Thank you.
