Giving Back Report for July 2022
In July 2022, we raised $2,181.80 for our charity partners. Through July 2022, we have now raised more than $524,462 for our charity partners. Giving Back is an essential part of our mission, and we are excited by our ability to support others. We continue to learn that the more we can give, the happier we are.
Our Giving Pack Program
A core aspect of our mission at John’s Crazy Socks is to demonstrate the capabilities and contributions of people with differing abilities. Our Giving Back Program helps us to achieve this mission. By donating to charities like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Autism Society of America, we enable them to do more work on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities.
John Cronin, the co-founder and inspiration behind John’s Crazy Socks, initiated the Giving Back Program by committing to donate five percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics even before we opened for business. John is a Special Olympics athlete and knows first-hand the difference the Special Olympics can make in the lives of all involved.
Since opening, we have added a growing list of Awareness Socks and Charity Socks that raise money for our charity partners. These include our Down Syndrome Awareness Socks, which John designed, and our Autism Awareness Socks. John loves to hand deliver the donations and our staff celebrates when we announce our Giving Back totals for the month.
Event: Life-DSR Study
On July 15, John travelled with his parents to Boston, Massachusetts for an initial medical evaluation at Massachusetts General Hospital. John is not ill, but John decided to participate in a study conducted at Mass General in conjunction with LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation to study the medical correlation between Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease. Many adults with Down syndrome are diagnosed with Alzeheimer’s disease earlier than the general population – usually by their mid-50’s. Studying individuals with Down syndrome and following their medical conditions for several years [starting in their mid-20’s] may help researchers and medical professionals develop more effective treatments for Alzheimer’s and, hopefully, a cure for this heart-breaking disease.
John felt that it was important that he be involved in this study because he knows that his participation can theoretically help many more people. John, like many folks, does not like needles but, when it came time for him to have his blood drawn for numerous tests, he left Mom and Dad and went with the technician to have the blood draw on his own to demonstrate his independence. He was so proud of himself.
John is now looking forward to his annual visits to Mass General. There’s nothing better than visiting Boston and eating lobster every day!
Event: Keller Williams – Michigan/Northern Ohio 2022 Culture Summit
On July 26, John and Mark were in Perrysburg, Ohio as the keynote speakers at the annual Culture Summit of the Michigan/Northern Ohio region of Keller Williams Realty. The subject of the speech was “Spreading Happiness Through Company Culture and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion”.
John and Mark spoke to about 300 real estate professionals who, at first, were skeptical as to how informative a speech by a father and son sock-selling team could be. By the end of the presentation, the crowd was on their feet, and everyone lined up to take a photograph with John.
As John and Mark say, one of their primary missions is to demonstrate what’s possible when you give an individual with a differing ability an opportunity. John demonstrates that every day and now hundreds of real estate professional in the southeast US know that too.

Nothing makes us happier than giving back to charity. We work together with our charity partners to help raise awareness for their causes. Then we report on this activity for our customers. Without you, none of this would be possible. Thank you.
