Wait, What Happened to the Store?

Wait, What Happened to the Store?

Hi, it’s John and Mark.

We haven’t gone anywhere.

After nine wonderful years of shipping socks around the world, creating meaningful jobs, and spreading happiness, we’ve decided to pause our direct-to-consumer online store.

This pause is intentional.

We’re taking time to reflect on everything we’ve learned, streamline what worked best, and rebuild the store so we can be stronger, more focused, and even more joyful. When we return in 2026, it will be with an updated version of John’s Crazy Socks, rooted in the same mission we’ve always had: spreading happiness and showing what people with differing abilities can do.

In the meantime:

  • Our custom socks and business services continue
  • In 2026, we will reintroduce our Sock of the Month
  • We can’t wait to show you what we are working on to make the store even better.
  • Our broader mission lives on through Abilities Rising

Most importantly, John’s Crazy Socks is not closing.

We’re building what comes next.

Thank you for being part of our journey.

We can’t wait to share what’s ahead.

Fox in Socks Socks Women's Crew Sock

Fox in Socks Socks

What came first, the words for fox and socks, or the fact that the words needed to rhyme because their appearance on these Fox in Socks Socks is too adorable to imagine them anywhere else? Well, let's take a closer look at the history behind Fox in Socks Socks. The word fox comes from Old English, spoken during the early Middle Ages, and is derived from fuhsaz from Proto-Germanic, a language spoken roughly 4,000 or 5,000 years ago. It doesn't stop there, however, for fuhsaz comes from the word puḱ-, which meant “thick-haired” in Proto-Indo-European, spoken perhaps around 3500 BC.

Socks is a modern word derived from the Old English word for slipper, socc. That word traces back to the Latin word, soccus, which in turn comes from the Ancient Greek's sykchos. So the origins date back to somewhere in the range of 900 BC to 600 AD.

So fox came first. And then socks. And then these Fox in Socks Socks. An etymology lesson and the cutest pair of socks that you'll own? That's John's Crazy Socks, for you.
