The Interview with John and Mark

Karen knows John and Mark well and has toured their operations; She and John have a special rapport and opened the show talking about baking Christmas cookies. Soon the conversation turned to John’s inspiration for starting his own business and selling socks.

“I love crazy socks,” said John. “They let me be me. I wore crazy socks my whole life.”

Karen asked about their proudest moments. John recalled how excited he was to speak at the United Nations. Mark spoke of how emotional it was to sit next to his son when they addressed Congress and the pride they took in representing the country on a speaking tour of Canada with the U.S. State Department.

It was a fun, insightful conversation.

About John’s Crazy Socks

John’s Crazy Socks was inspired by John Lee Cronin, a young man with Down syndrome, and his love of colorful and fun socks—what he calls his “crazy socks.” He and his father, Mark X. Cronin, started the company as a social enterprise with a mission of Spreading Happiness™. With more than 4,000 socks, John’s Crazy Socks is now the world’s largest sock store. More than half their employees have a differing ability, and their Giving Back program has raised nearly $700,000 for charity partners like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Autism Society of America. Most of all, they are Spreading Happiness™.
