David Michelangelo Socks
“My face! Look at my face first on these David Michelangelo Socks!”
With a little imagination and a lot of nerve, I have decided to interview the image of David that appears on the beautiful blue men’s socks before you. It is probably something no one else would do before purchasing these socks, so I decided to give it a try. I have interviewed dead artists before, but never the piece of art itself. I’m afraid David is a bit temperamental. He is still ranting.
“Everyone is so impressed with my body! Yes, I am a beautiful young man. And I am always hearing, ‘Aren’t his hands big?’ Well, yes they are, but my nickname has always been, Strong of Hand. And then they comment on my hips. ‘Strange,’ they say, ‘How he holds his hips at that odd angle.’ Well, if you’d been carved out of a piece of marble that had been discarded for 40 years and thought to be ruined, your hips would be odd too.”
Your block of marble was recycled by Michelangelo?
“Yes, anyone wearing David Michelangelo Socks should know that he spent three years, fashioning me from a marble block that others considered impossible to work with.”
What a creative genius! It’s too bad Michelangelo isn’t here to wear David Michelangelo Socks.
“And still in his mid 20’s. He created the Pieta five years earlier, then me and painted the Sistine Chapel at 29. But I feel my face is not appreciated as it should be. Of course it is exquisite. But my expression is one of concentration, of anxiety and determination. I am about to fight the vicious giant Goliath with nothing but this rock. And this is what has endeared me to the people of Florence. I am a symbol of what was a new republic, under constant threat from the Medici Family and others. But we have faced our foes fearlessly.”
I don’t know who would mess with you!
“I am three times bigger than normal and weigh enough for 80 men. But I have been stoned—with rocks—and in 1527 during a riot, my left arm was broken. Finally, after 350 years in the Piazza, it occurred to them that the weather may not be good for me so they replaced me with a poor imitation. Now here in the museum the vibrations of eight million tourists a year is a problem. You thought I had it easy.”
It’s too bad YOU can’t enjoy a pair of David Michelangelo Socks.
David rolled his eyes.
