Job Position: Data Maven (a.k.a. Number Cruncher)

Data Maven a.k.a. Number Cruncher

We’re in the business of spreading happiness. To fulfill our mission, we need to understand our performance by analyzing data.  We also need to look to data about our customers so we can better understand how to make them happy. We need a Data Maven who can identify the best sources of data, pull the data together, present the data in usable formats (reports!) and work with our managers to interpret the data and then help us make decisions on how best to move forward.

We want someone who loves data, who wants to understand what the data is telling us and wants to contribute to the direction of our firm. We believe that everything we do is a hypothesis: we plan, act and then measure the results to determine how to revise our plan. Then we act again, measure and revise. You can see the vital role the Data Maven plays in our business.

Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply as this can be an entry level position.

We are a small, but rapidly growing firm with big dreams. You will be the first Data Maven that we hire, and you will work with the President and managers from all aspects of our business: social media to our website to our operations to our product development. You will help develop and then produce a standard reporting package for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports. You will also prepare ad hoc reports for special projects and questions that arise. You will not be bored.

As our Data Maven, you will:

  • Help frame critical questions about our business
  • Identify the best data sources to answer those questions
  • Gather the data
  • Analyze the data
  • Present the data in a format that makes it most useful to our managers and staff
  • Help formulate policy and operational decisions driven by the data

We turn all our work into content for our social media and John’s Crazy Socks Network, so you will appear in videos and photographs. You might even wind up having your own show, perhaps a Fun with Numbers show.

We work in a collegial environment that is fast-paced, but not stressed out. No screaming here, no carrying on. We work in an open plan, though we make accommodations for when you need quiet or private work space. The hours are standard and flexible – no long hours. We want you fresh and alive. We enjoy each other’s company. We work with meaning and purpose and share the happiness.
