Giving Back Report for April 2022

Giving Back Report for April 2022

In April 2022, we raised $4,972.36 for our charity partners. Through April 2022, we have now raised more than $517,502 for our charity partners. Giving Back is an essential part of our mission and we are excited by our ability to support others. We continue to learn that the more we can give, the happier we are.

Our Giving Pack Program

A core aspect of our mission at John’s Crazy Socks is to demonstrate the capabilities and contributions of people with differing abilities. Our Giving Back Program helps us to achieve this mission. By donating to charities like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Autism Society of America, we enable them to do more work on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities.

John Cronin, the co-founder and inspiration behind John’s Crazy Socks, initiated the Giving Back Program by committing to donate five percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics even before we opened for business. John is a Special Olympics athlete and knows first-hand the difference the Special Olympics can make in the lives of all involved.

Since opening, we have added a growing list of Awareness Socks and Charity Socks that raise money for our charity partners. These include our Down Syndrome Awareness Socks, which John designed, and our Autism Awareness Socks. John loves to hand deliver the donations and our staff celebrates when we announce our Giving Back totals for the month.

Event: Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month [often called Autism Acceptance Month] and it is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize our colleagues on the autism spectrum.

On April 1, John and Mark appeared on ABC News to discuss how hiring individuals with differing abilities, and especially individuals with autism, is not altruism but it is good business especially when, as now, there is a national labor shortage.  By considering individuals of all different abilities – looking at what they can do and not what they cannot do – John’s Crazy Socks has a competitive advantage over other similar businesses because we have a surplus of applicants.

We also donated $1 for every order received on April 2, Autism Awareness Day, to the Autism Society of America for an additional $79 donation.

Event: Move to our New Office and Warehouse

On April 21 and 22, John’s Crazy Socks moved from our headquarters from Melville to Farmingdale – a distance of only three miles.  We needed more warehouse space to accommodate our growth and it was time to find a larger facility.  So, we packed everything [including our Spreading Happiness neon sign] and moved on down the road!  Thanks to College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving for doing all the hefty lifting and making our move as pleasant as possible.

It was all hands-on-deck as our sock wranglers became packers and counters.  Everything in the warehouse not only had to be packed and moved but it had to be counted as well.  Remarkably, we only “lost” 14 socks from the over 100,000 pairs we have in stock.  Kudos to our warehouse team and Andrew Neter, our Lord of the Socks!

It was bittersweet leaving the old headquarters where we had spent our formative years, but it is exciting to embark on our future in a beautiful new space.

Giving Back – April 2022

This report covers sales and activities from April 1 through April 30, 2022.

Giving Back to the Special Olympics

We pledge 5 percent of our annual earnings to the Special Olympics. We also donate 5 percent of the sales from our Sock of the Month Club to the Special Olympics. In addition, each sale of Shark Socks, Polar Plunge Socks, and Spreading Happiness Socks results in a donation to the Special Olympics.

This month, we raised $507.20 for the Special Olympics.
